New style icon

I know a lot of people say that Audrey Hepburn is their favorite style icon from the past. And, had you asked me that question 2 weeks ago I probably would have said the same.

However, a interesting turn of events has occurred.

Thanks to AMC for running 14 of Alfred Hitchcock's movies for the past week I have adopted a new style icon. And she is...

....wait for it....

The beautiful Ms. Grace Kelly.

Although there were some fairly scandalous rumors surrounding her early years, how can you not just fall head over heels with her style?

This dress is from Rear window and when I saw it on the screen I think I actually gasped. The ear doctor looked at me like I was crazy. It is really very beautiful.

Oh, to have a reason to wear wrist length gloves! And drive with Cary Grant! (From To Catch a Thief)

Plus, every time someone comments on my wedding dress, they say that it reminds them of hers. What a compliment! After looking up her dress, I cansee the parallels, what do you think?

Oh MY, yes! Audrey is delightful, but I have always thought of Grace Kelly as the epitome of feminine perfection. She has been my style icon since I was a little girl. FYI: I snatched up an issue of Time magazine from the newsstand yesterday. Grace is on the cover, and every single page is packed with photos of her, from actress life to princess-dom. Truly lovely, and a must-have for one's inspiration files.

Incidentally, I also love your wedding dress! My cousin is getting married next spring, and she swooned when I showed her your wedding photo links. It is tough to find a classy, modest dress that doesn't look like the "satin t-shirt" clones flooding the scene. Any chance you might share your pattern numbers? (My e-mail is in my profile.) I'm not above offering to bribe with chocolate chip cookies!

I definitely agree that Grace Kelly is the icon. As I try to class up my look, she is one of the people I look to for inspiration.

And I ALSO agree that your dress is absolutely stunning. Someday, when I take the plunge, I'd love to wear something similar.

Hi there! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! You made a *gorgeous* bride ~ those are lovely photos! Grace Kelly is ... well, just *so* full of grace. Classy, elegant, admirable. Her sister's name was Lisanne, just like mine! hehe :) Nice blog you have here. Congratulations on your marriage!

WOW!!! I LOVE your dress - I still can't believe that you MADE it! You ROCK! I love the hint of color in the belt! And the flower in your hair is perfection. I actually took a screen capture to put into my wedding folder.

And yes, Grace Kelly rules!

Grace Kelly is not allowed to be a style icon, because she is quite possibly the most beautiful woman ever on planet earth. It's not fair to be both.

You dress is classic and beautiful. So classy!

My BF and I were watching Rear Window last week... and HE was the one oohing and ahhing over her dresses!
Okay... I was oohing and ahhing too... and over more of them. But he had plenty to say.

So funny - because fashion is SO NOT a concern of his... but Grace Kelly, come on!

I love both, but Grace does have the added bonus of being a princess. Who wouldn't want to be a princess? This is my absolute favorite pic of her. I think it's mesmerizing. Have you seen The Country Girl? If not you should check it out, she is awesome in it.

Actually, we watched Rope just last night! I had seen it before, but it was the first time for my husband and he really liked it.

I didn't watch a whole lot of them last week cause I own about half the ones they aired, ha. We still have Saboteur on the DVR to watch though.

Vertigo is the one that I most frequently choose as my favorite, although sometimes I decide it's Rear Window or The Trouble With Harry. We have a Vertigo poster opposite our Dial M For Murder one, ha.

Me too me too. I love Grace + that marathon! I hope they do it again soon, because I didn't get a chance to watch them all.

She IS absolutely fabulous. Glamorous, tasteful, never overdone. I spent a day at a resort in Mallorca where Grace Kelly vacationed; it really was a million times classier than the other beachtowns on the island. Excellent icon choice.
