Married realization

Last night the ear doctor and I had a long discussion about how lucky we are. We both love our respective in-laws.

My mother- and father-in-law are fantastic people: kind, thoughtful, concerned and loving. I know they will never be the type of people who are controlling or pushy. They'll never force us to make a decision we don't want to make. I know, in the future, they'll never tell us that we're doing something wrong in raising our as-of-yet-unborn kids. They love me the way I am. They don't hope that someday I'll change into what they want me to be.

And I was taking this for granted.

Because the more people I meet and the more stories I hear about in-laws the more I realize this is rare.

How is your relationship with your in-laws?

Wow, the both of you are REALLY lucky...

Even though my in-laws are wonderful people, we are soooo different I feel like an anthropologist when we interact. Strained and a stressed. I'm a Jane Goodall, attempting to decipher what these people mean and exactly what the heck is going on. Nice folks, but we absolutely don't get each other, and there are usually some inadvertent clashes when we all converge on one spot. I'm sure my husband could say similar things about my family.

Cherish what you've got; it's a definite rarity!

NO COMMENT :) okay well maybe a brief one...let's just say they're missing out on a super rad family (my little family) and two cute little girls! :)

My MIL hid our marriage license so we couldn't file it to be legally married. Does that tell you anything?

Everything you wrote- but opposite. And we haven't seen them in almost 18 months...yep, they didn't even call their son (my hubby) to wish him a happy 30th birthday! Ouch!!! Mean and controlling. But I am learning lots and lots of "what not to do" if I'm blessed to ever be an in-law.

I'm the same as you where I love my in-laws. In fact, I'm pretty much best friends with my mother-in-law. She treats me like the daughter she never had. So I'm with you on feeling pretty lucky.
