Sounds about right to me. That's what I've always called it. I can totally imagine it making the sound "boing, boing."
The boinger is perfectly named. I shall incorporate it into my curriculum with my culinary novices.
My mother had a boinger...didn't know it had a name. Hers was lopsided from use.
