Does this look only work because it's on a model who is probably 8 feet tall? Because I really like it...

no! I buy any skirt I can like this from DI or thrift shops, cause they are hard to find. high-waisted pencil skirts are seriously so flattering! ANd i have a huge ol behind.

i have an outfit very similar to this, and LOVE it! even if you're kind of short, it makes you look really tall. awesome and SO flattering.
